Coming into last week’s games in south Florida, there were a number of teams who were getting plenty of attention.
Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, Miami Northwestern and Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna were at the head of the list that many across the state of Florida focused on. But there is one program that may have been forgotten about, and as they showed last Friday night – beating defending 4A state champion Plantation American Heritage on the road, 31-21, Miami Central has not gone anywhere.
In a crazy start to a season where first year head coach Derrick Gibson and his Rockets had no spring game or kickoff classic (postponed at Ocala Vanguard due to bad weather), saw their opener at 3A state runner up Jacksonville Raines get cancelled and see their district opener against Pompano Beach get pushed back, this team has gotten off to a 3-0 start.
The come-from-behind win against the Patriots not only showed that this team has talent, but also proved that the Rockets have character and are indeed in this to win the state title, which didn’t happen last year.
Miami Central is still one of the best teams in the country. While they may not be as deep as they have been in the past, they are loaded with elite playmakers and are well coached.
The group of prospects that this roster has is certainly as good as any in Florida and could still stand toe-to-toe with some of the nation’s best.
2026 - Jayden Ford, RB, 5’6, 180. FIU commitment is indeed a difference maker. His speed and ability to make huge plays makes him one of the best in south Florida.

2026 - Otis Guyton, DE/OLB, 6’0, 200 – 3.8 GPA. Easily is one of the best pass rushers in the state who has been a major force for the past two years.

2028 - Damien Harvey, DT, 6’1, 250 – 3.7 GPA. Here is a young playmaker that many across the state have already recognized and will be rated as one of the best in a very talented class. Tough to block one on one.

2026 - Omari Hollis, RB, 5’11, 180. Has added depth to the position as a bruising back that is not easy to bring down. He is committed to attend Presbyterian University.

2028 - Demetrius Ingram, WR/FS, 6’1, 175. One of the emerging young players on this team.

2026 – Brandon Kinsey, WR/CB, 6’2, 195. This Miami Immaculata LaSalle transfer is easily one of the most impact athletes in the nation. Headed to Purdue next year, this is a student/athlete that is indeed a major talent.

2026 – Daune Manor, WR, 6’1, 180 – 3.0 GPA. Of all the players that were added to this roster in the off-season, there may not have been a more impact performer than this young man who has been brilliant since coming from Miramar Everglades.

2026 – Karon Maycock, LB, 6’2, 210 – 3.0 GPA. This FSU commitment has turned into one of the best in Florida – and has made a difference so far this season.

2026 - Louisdens Paul, OLB, 5’11, 195. This Miami Springs transfer has picked up where he left off as a three-year starter for the Golden Hawks. Is always around the ball and has been a huge addition to a quality defense.

2027 - Anterrio Thornton Jr., OL, 6’2, 280. One of the fast-rising underclassmen who actually had a very productive off-season that thrust him into the spotlight. Solid player.
