Miami-Dade, Broward Under-The-Radar Defensive Backs Are Emerging

When it comes to the defensive secondary position in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, the position has been among the best in the country each and every year.

Look at the stars who have left this area and have gone on to the next level and beyond, making an impact at the position.

When college coaches come down for spring, you can guarantee that on their “shopping list” has to be a cornerback or safety. Those positions from this region of the country are often premium, and that is a fact that is backed up in each recruiting cycle.

This week, we have already looked at the under-the-radar offensive linemen and receivers – and today we check out some Class of 2027, 2028 and 2029 defensive backs who deserved some recognition in a crowded #305 and #954.

CLASS OF 2027

As the senior class gets ready for the upcoming season, this spring and summer have been valuable from the standpoint of getting their names out.

Among the two-county prospects include Jerome Pendergrass (Homestead South Dade), Elijah Francois (Homestead South Dade), KyíMarlei Brown (Plantation American Heritage), Trenten Spell (Homestead), Johnny Joassaint Jr. (Miami Jackson), Lorenzo Johnson (Hialeah American), Rico Johnson (Miami Norland), Michael Grant (Miami Booker T. Washington), Tyrek Greggs (Miami Booker T. Washington) and Aaron Oboh (Coral Gables).

The class also has Jasper Sejour (Miami Norland), Michael Millar (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), Jahari Baptiste (Homestead), Raul Agramonte Jr. (Miami Lakes Barbara Goleman), Edward Dorval (North Miami), Deandre Leonard (Miami Gulliver Prep), Kendrick Williams (Miami Killian), Abdul Hopkins Jr. (Hialeah American) and Quincey Phillips (Miramar Everglades).

CLASS OF 2028

There is no doubt that the talent at the position runs deep and with the underclassmen, you will see a number of emerging prospects.

The underpublicized 2028 prospects include Aron Whitfield (Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy Charter), Michael Brown (Hialeah ABF Academy), William Thomas III (Fort Lauderdale), Calvin Lutori (Homestead South Dade), Jason Owens (Miami Booker T. Washington), Ty Hayes III (North Miami Beach), Derek Cobb (Fort Lauderdale), John Paul Jr. (Coral Springs Coral Glades) and Jamari Thompson (Coral Springs Coral Glades).

There are also Zakari Stanley (Miami Jackson), Danziel Santana (Miami Senior), Quinton Rolle Jr. (Miami Central), Jaylen Gabart (Miami Khan Academy), Samuel Leon (Homestead), Daniel Morgan (Pompano Beach Blanche Ely), Seth Claude (Homestead) and Drew Darrow (Miami Christopher Columbus).

CLASS OF 2029

Even the sophomore class has some prospects who are fighting for recognition. Players such as David Lima (Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy Charter), Aviyon Darien (Miami Northwestern), Brandon Bennett (Homestead South Dade), Justin Shropshire (Homestead South Dade), Antwan Ragin (Miami Northwestern), Jose Agramonte (Miami Lakes Barbara Goleman), Benjamin Rodriguez (Miami Ransom Everglades) and Delvin Brooks Jr. (Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace).

The 2029 class also has other players to keep an eye on – like Julien Griffin Jr. (Miami Jackson), Cortlandt Florence (Miami Norland), Jovani Louis (Miami Northwestern), Travis Coley (Miami Jackson), Samuel Marsh (Hollywood McArthur), Aaiden Samuel (Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace), David Chenault (North Miami), Taíran Wright (Miami Springs) and Kareem Johnson (Miami Booker T.
