Several Local Teams Prepare For The Post Season Today

While this has been a fast-moving high school football season, we hit this Friday with a number of teams that still have post-season hopes.

As the “Open Division” plays itself out via the Max Preps computer ranking, there are other programs who are using these final two weeks to position themselves for the post season.

While fans have gotten caught up in the eight teams who will play in the post season as part of the inaugural Open Division, there are so many other teams who have played amazing football this season and will have their opportunity to compete for the 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A state titles that will still be up for grabs at Pitbull Stadium on the campus of Florida International University.

While there are several games that will be played today and tomorrow, here are two spotlight contests to watch:

Miami Christopher Columbus (8-1) vs. Miami Northwestern (6-3), Traz, 7:30. On the surface this shouldn’t be the battle that it could have been the past few years, it shows how quickly things can change in high school football. Last year at this time, the Explorers were finishing with five wins while the Bulls were playing for their second straight state title.

Because players change schools at a record pace, and coaches are on the move, the landscape, especially in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties can change – just like the that.

While Christopher Columbus is one of those teams’ 100 percent headed to the inaugural Open Division after beating one national power and taken the other down to the wire, Miami Northwestern has struggled, although they did with a district title.
