North Defeats South 10-7 In 27th BCAA All-Star Football Game

By Dave Brousseau
BCAA Writer
DAVIE – The first play after the second half kickoff, Blanche Ely running back Shawn Paschall sprinted 85 yards with the football firmly gripped under his right arm.

As it turned out Paschall’s scoring run was the difference in the outcome as the North defeated the South 10-7 in the 27th annual BCAA All-Star football game at Nova High on Thursday.

The final score was the second time the All-Star game was decided by the exact results since the South defeated the North in 2014.

The North now leads the series 18-9.

“I had just told my O-line and receivers I’m going to score on an 85-yard run just like I did against St. Thomas,” said Paschall. “I don’t have too much more to say other than thanking the BCAA for putting me in the All-Star game.”

The result of the game wasn’t secure until there were 55 seconds remaining in regulation when Taurus Damon Jr. (Plantation) intercepted a pass in the endzone.

The South had driven from the 50 following a North punt to the 10-yard line prior to the pick.

“This was a great experience for everyone competing,” said North coach Quentin Short of Piper. “The kids played their tale off especially with the big play at the end. Both offenses struggled all night, and the defenses played well.”

Following Paschall’s touchdown that put his team up 10-0, the South team responded on the ensuing kickoff with a Lavon Moss (Miramar) 2-yard run up the middle with 3:36 left in the third quarter, cutting the deficit.

The offensive and defensive players of the game for the North were Trent Dubuc (Cardinal Gibbons) and Damon Jr. (Plantation). For the South team the offensive and defensive players of the game were Keidran Willis Jr. (Pembroke Pines Charter and Zachary Dorelien (Nova).

“The most important part was making sure the kids have fun.” Said South coach Keidran Willis Sr. of Pembroke Pines Charter. “I think this was a great experience for all the players. "Our kids had a chance to win the ball game, but it didn’t go out way.”

Other than placekicker Isaias Posada Rios converting on a 24-yard field goal attempt with 5:26 left in the second quarter, offenses struggled, and defenses shined in the first half.

Five players for the South registered five sacks in the opening half.

Christian Mata of Piper spent the majority of the first escaping defenders, occasionally finding running room, allowing the North to find scoring chances twice.

The South had their best scoring opportunity late in the second quarter, but Flanagan quarterback Devon Gonzalez couldn’t find and open receiver for a touchdown.

Chaminade-Madonna On Top Once Again!

After heading to the state championship game for the ninth consecutive year, there was no sign that the Chaminade-Madonna and head coach Dameon Jones was slowing down.

While south Florida had a number of quality programs, very few teams answered the bell like the Lions.

Despite losing the first two games of the season, the challenging schedule and beating two state champions and 13 state playoff teams gave this program a third straight No. 1 finish.

While the Lions shined at last week’s state championship game with a sixth state title in seven years, there were others who made a strong finish – with four Miami-Dade and Broward schools taking home state titles.

Here is the way the rest of the teams finished in this year’s rankings:

1. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (13-2, 1A). LAST WEEK: The Lions beat No. 3 seed Clearwater Central Catholic, 42-8. This program has established itself as a national powerhouse.

2. Plantation American Heritage (12-2, 4A). LAST WEEK: The Patriots won a thriller against No. 2 seed Orlando Jones, 40-31. Mike Smith and his team overcame a lot.

3. Miami Northwestern (12-2, 3A). LAST WEEK: The Bulls continued to dominate the competition with a 41-0 state title win against No. 1 seed and previously unbeaten Jacksonville Raines. First year head coach Teddy Bridgewater and the Bulls were very impressive over the past seven weeks of the season, shaking off losses to state champion Venice, Miami Central (on the field) and Miami Norland.

4. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (12-3, 5A). LAST WEEK: For the unbelievable sixth straight time, the Raiders brought home a 34-0 shutout win against previously No. 1 Lakeland. Head Coach Roger Harriott and his team won for an amazing sixth straight season after being challenged in the state playoffs.

5. Miami Booker T. Washington (10-3, 2A)

Local State Prospects, Part 2: Miami Northwestern & Plantation American Heritage

This week we have four area programs taking part in the 2024 Florida high school football state championships.

While these young men are on the field looking to bring home a title to the #305 and #954, we will continue to shine a spotlight on prospects who may not be on everyone’s radar.

Today, we will look at two more programs (Plantation American Heritage and Miami Northwestern) who have helped to carry football in the Sunshine State.

Here are five players to keep an eye on:

2026 – Anthony Bell, OL, 6-4, 290, Miami Northwestern. Before the start of the season there was concern about the Bulls’ offensive line. Prospects like this have more than answered the question why this program is in the state finals. He has emerged as one of those quality big men, who has the size and athleticism to continue to grow and mature. Opens holes for the running games and continued to improve in his pass blocking. He gets up field as quickly as anyone on running plays. Keep an eye on this young man!

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/19625745/Anthony-Bell

2025 – King Davis, RB, 5-10, 180, Miami Northwestern. A four-year varsity performer who started to make an impact as a freshman. Has the ability to get through holes and use his speed to turn a short gain into something special. It certainly has added balance to the offense with over 700 rushing yards.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16147654/King-Davis

2025 – Darius “Boobie” Johnson, WR, 5-11, 165, Miami Northwestern. If you’ve followed this impressive talent from the early days at Miami Edison to where he is today, you already know how impressive he is. On a team loaded with quality pass catchers, this Syracuse signee heads into the season finale with 40 catches and nine touchdowns. He is indeed for real!

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16850022/Darius-Johnson

2026 – Isaac Tanis, DL, Plantation American Heritage. On a team loaded with prospects who continued to step up, this one-time Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons standout has made a huge difference with the Patriots, coming up with seven sacks and 53 tackles during a year where this team ran a gauntlet of quality teams.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/18313737/66fff8bf8f54d4cd1f2661bb

2026 – Rodarion Tellez, DL, 6-3, 220, Plantation American Heritage. While this team is looking for a state championship, looking into the future includes this prospect who came up with several key plays as a run stopper and someone who would make life tough on quarterbacks. Heading into the 4A game, he has 11 sacks and 73 tackles.

Miami-Dade, Broward Playoff Prospects, Part 1

This week we have four area programs taking part in the 2024 Florida high school football state championships.

While these young men are on the field looking to bring home a title to the #305 and #954, we will continue to shine a spotlight on prospects who may not be on everyone’s radar.

Today, we will look at two programs who have helped to carry football in the Sunshine State and are in the mix every year.

For head coach Roger Harriott and his five-time defending state champion Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders there are many gifted prospects on the team. We bring you three who you will need to know – not only at the high school level, but in the future as well.

Making a record ninth consecutive trip to the state title game, head coach Dameon Jones and his Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Lions are also stacked with elite talent – even in a year that saw this program send several elite players to college in 2023.

Here are five players to keep an eye on:

2027 – Jayden Dean, OL, 6-3, 277, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. Easily one of the top prospects nationally in the class. He can play anywhere on the offensive line. Has more than held his own during a season in which the Raiders faced off against some topflight defensive teams. In addition to what he does on the field, his work in the classroom (3.75 GPA) is already opening doors.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/18274620/Jayden-Dean

2025 – Camari Hall, RB, 5-11, 180, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. If you watched this program down the stretch, they may have had as good a running game as anyone in the state, and at the center of the quality attack was this McArthur transfers, who has shown that he can get it done against anyone. His play earned him a scholarship to attend Middle Tennessee State, where his 3.0 grade point average will also help in becoming a student/athlete.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16577976/Camari-Hall

2026 – Bryant Junius, OLB, 6-1, 195, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. When the Lions lost some key players from last year’s unbeaten team, they were searching for prospects to step up – and without question – here is one of those underclassmen who is a playmaker that is already receiving national recognition. Expect him to continue to blow up in the off season and will be one of the top prospects in Florida next season. Was among the leading tacklers this season.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/18286964/Bryant-Junius

2025 – Joey Ramjas, LB, 5-11, 205, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. On a team loaded with prospects, here is someone who was truly a huge addition to this team during another state championship run. Enhanced his package as a recruit with a 3.1 GPA. He will make an impact at the next level because he can play this game.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16347974/Joey-Ramjas

2025 – Chance Washington, RB, 5-11, 215, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. While starting out his career at Davie Western, here is someone who has matured into a bug back who not only has power but has some speed to break away. Has the size to play fullback at the next level, but the agility to help in the running game. Can also catch the ball out of the backfield. Has a 3.5 GPA in the classroom.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/16484810/Chance-Washington

NEXT: Tomorrow we will check out Miami Northwestern (3A) and Plantation American Heritage who are also stacked with elite talent.
