While this evening’s (7:00) kickoff classic between Hollywood McArthur and Plantation American Heritage is just an exhibition tune up for the upcoming season, it may be a little more than that.
While the host Patriots are coming off a 4A state championship, there were some key losses that left a few holes – in the starting lineup and depth chart that head coach Mike Smith and his assistant coaches wanted to fine tune before next week’s Broward National Football Showcase ESPN game against national power St. Joseph’s Prep of Philadelphia.
American Heritage is loaded with talent and picked by many to make a return appearance to Pitbull Stadium in December to defending their crown.
With one of the most competitive schedules in the state, tonight’s game will give this team a chance to watch some returning stars as well as newcomers who are expected to make an impact.
ORTEGA COMES HOME WITH PLENTY OF OPTIMISM
Since taking over as head coach at his alma mater before spring, Robert Ortega will coach his first game for the Mustangs.
Without a spring game this past May, the opportunity to see what his team is all about is certainly the perfect test for a program that will be challenged this season.
The Mustangs are talented and have several key prospects that are highly regarded, especially several underclassmen who are highly ranked statewide and nationally.
