No. 7 Miami Norland and No. 2 Miami Northwestern Collide Tonight

When Tyronn Johnson took over as head coach at Miami Norland, the one-time Miami Northwestern standout and former athletic director accepted a challenge that would include one of the toughest schedules in the state of Florida.

With some of the top teams in the state on this impressive schedule, loading up was something that would be needed, especially competing in a district with defending 4A state champions, Plantation American Heritage and two other teams – Plantation and Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy – who both made the state playoffs a year ago.

Part of that schedule of state-rated programs would included this evening’s (7:30, Traz Powell Stadium) matchup with the defending 3A state champion Miami Northwestern Bulls, who like Norland, has a first-year head coach Jaquatin Victrum that took over for Teddy Bridgewater.

Both coaches are replacing icons who came back to coach their alma mater – much like the veteran Daryle Heidelburg did, coaching his school for over two decades.

The clash tonight is indeed one of the best in the state with two teams that are loaded with elite talent and both have their eyes on the grand prize in December at Pitbull Stadium right here in Miami.
